Why I chose to live in Monticello

This past weekend is a great example of why I CHOSE to live in Monticello.

First off was the Exchange Clubs Texas Chili Feast. As President of the Exchange Club I was quite worried how we would do with this years chili feast. You see with the loss of Billy Davis I did not now how we would do. Mr. Billy just seemed to take care of everything, all we had do to as club members was show up and follow instructions. Mr. Billy would have everything there and ready to go. Well I should not have worried. Miss Louise Davis and the rest stepped up and took care of it all. By all accounts it was one of the best chili feast days ever. Thanks to the Exchange Club for all you do to make Monticello so special.

Then that night how about the Monticello Christmas Parade? It had to be one of the best we have ever had. Gay McElroy, Bob Smira and the Chamber of Commerce did a fantastic job. Then it was on to Christmas in the Park at Cooper Ferry Park. Bethel Baptist choir did a great job singing carols, Amy Corkern had her hands full with Santa and his elves taking pictures in the Gazebo, the hot chocolate and the gathering of friends and family just topped off the day. And what can we say about the Matt and Kim Melzer family. His emceeing of the parade, their decorating of the park and their spirit is out of this world. As I was standing next to Donna and taking it all in I realized this is why I live in Monticello. Is it the most beautifully decorated park, was it the Macy's parade, was it the Mormon Tabernacle Choir? We all know the answer is no. But what it was, was friends and family coming together to have one great weekend. You can't get that anywhere else.

That's why I always say, Remember, "Monticello it just feels like Home."
